Fiery Furnaces - Remember

"...music taps into the primitive brain structures involved with motivation, reward, and emotion. Whether it is the first few hits of the cowbell on ‘Honky Tonk Women’, or the first few notes of ‘Sheherazade’, computational systems in the brain synchronize neural oscillators with the pulse of the music, and begin to predict when the next strong beat will occur. As the music unfolds, the brain constantly updates it’s estimates of when new beats will occur, and takes satisfaction in matching a mental beat with a real-in-world one, and takes delight when a skillful musician violates that expectation in an interesting way – a sort of musical joke that we’re all in on. Music breathes, speeds up, and slows down just as the world does, and our cerebellum finds pleasure in adjusting itself to stay synchronized...”

Jacaszek - Treny
Muito bom.
Jacaszek has managed with "Treny" to assemble an album so heart-stoppingly beautiful and personal that we’ve been stunned into silence for its entire 55 minute duration. With string arrangements provided courtesy of Stefan Wesolowski, the foundations of the album are set with Cello and Violin painting fragile outlines coloured by subtle electronic manipulations, harp, piano and reduced, haunting operatic voices. Unlike so many of his contemporaries, Michael Jacaszek doesn’t make use of any samples, with everything on the album assembled by the musicians on hand (notably Maja Sieminska, Anja Smiszek-Wesolowska and Wesolowski and Jcaszek themselves) - and the subtle grandeur of the album is almost impossible to take in over one sitting, even if the impact is absolutely immediate. This is the kind of album that you just cannot believe a bijou imprint like Miasmah is able to lay its hands on - such is the scale of its success that it feels like a hugely important piece of work, far outweighing almost anything else we’ve heard in the modern classical field these last eighteen months. Cinematic without ever feeling contrived, "Treny" is surely one of the most impressive, mystical and astonishing albums of the year.
Lindstrom - where you go i go too (2008)
Norwegian space-disco star Lindstrøm is set to release his solo debut, Where You Go I Go Too, on August 19. The album is actually Lindstrøm's second for Smalltown Supersound, but 2006's It's A Feedelity Affair of previously released singles on his own Feedelity imprint. This new collection features just three mammoth disco tracks, the first of which is almost a half-hour long.
Lindstrøm's 2005 collaborative effort with Norwegian DJ Prins Thomas, titled, obviously, Lindstøm And Prins Thomas, offered a slew of sleek, minimalist disco tracks, and their second joint album will be released by Eskimo recordings following the release of Where You Go I Go Too. As of next year, the busy DJ/producer is expected to also work with vocalist Solale for yet another collaborative collection.
Tracklist For Where You Go I Go Also:
01. Where You Go I Go Too
02. Grand Ideas
03. The Long Way Home
